History of Arroyo Seco
Arroyo Seco was first settled in 1804. This happened on land that was part of a Spanish land grant from 1745. The Church of the Most Holy Trinity was finished in 1834. This historic church has been recently fixed up and restored.
Lucero Peak and its Sacred Cave
Overlooking Arroyo Seco is Lucero Peak. This is a large rock formation that stands about 10,780 feet (3,286 meters) tall. Inside Lucero Peak is a cave. This cave is very important and sacred to the local Native American people from Taos Pueblo.
The famous writer D.H. Lawrence visited this cave in May 1924. His visit inspired him to write a short story called "The Woman who Rode Away".

This song is from their 1976 album Tales from the Ozone. The lyrics say: "She wrote her name there on my windshield, Just to remind me where she was from' Tina Louise, Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, 1971."
