The Art Hauser Centre is a cool building in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. It's a place where many different events happen. It first opened in 1971.
This centre is the home of the Prince Albert Raiders Ice hockey team. They play in the Western Hockey League, which is a major junior hockey league in Canada and the United States. For hockey games, 2,580 people can sit down, and another 786 can stand to watch the action!
A New Name for a Great Place
The Art Hauser Centre wasn't always called that. It used to be known as the Prince Albert Communiplex. The name changed in 2004-2005. This happened because of a special effort called the "Bring Back The Magic" campaign.
Why the Name Change?
The "Bring Back The Magic" campaign was started to raise money. The goal was to make big improvements to the building. In less than a month, the community raised over $3 million!
The arena was renamed to honor a local businessperson named Art Hauser. He gave a very generous donation of $1 million to the campaign. All the renovations were finished by the spring of 2006.
Exciting Renovations and Upgrades
The improvements made the Art Hauser Centre even better. Many parts of the building were updated.
- New Food and Drinks: There are new concession stands in the southeast part of the building on both levels. This means more places to grab snacks and drinks!
- Better Washrooms: New washrooms were also added in the same area on both levels.
- Comfy Seats: All the seats in the arena were replaced with new ones.
- Updated Dressing Rooms: The rooms where the players get ready were also renovated.
- Cool Scoreboard: A brand-new scoreboard was installed in the middle of the ice. It has video screens on all four sides, so everyone can see replays and scores.
- Expanded Lounge: The Ches Leach Lounge, a popular spot, was made bigger.
- New Front Lobby: The main entrance area is now a new lobby. It's named after Johnny Bower, a famous former NHL goalie who was born in Prince Albert. This lobby also has more concessions and a team store where you can buy fan gear.
- New Offices: Both the WHL Raiders team and the City of Prince Albert have new offices in the building.
