Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code is the third book in the exciting Artemis Fowl series. It was written by the Irish author Eoin Colfer. This book comes after Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident and before Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception.

In this story, Artemis Fowl is a brilliant young genius. He and his friends must get back a super-smart computer. Artemis built this computer, called the "C Cube". It was stolen by a tricky businessman named Jon Spiro. People generally liked the book a lot.

The Story of the Eternity Code

Artemis's New Invention

Artemis Fowl II is a very smart 13-year-old. He has built an amazing supercomputer. He calls it the "C Cube". Artemis made it using stolen fairy technology. This technology came from LEPrecon helmets. Butler, Artemis's bodyguard, took them during a past adventure. The C Cube is much more advanced than any human technology.

Artemis meets Jon Spiro, a businessman from Chicago. They meet in London. Artemis wants to show Spiro the C Cube. He hopes to sell the technology for a lot of gold. But Spiro tricks Artemis and steals the C Cube. During the theft, Butler is shot by one of Spiro's helpers, Arno Blunt.

Fairy Help Arrives

Artemis's C Cube demonstration causes a big problem. It accidentally finds fairy technology underground. This makes all the equipment in Haven City shut down. Commander Root, a fairy leader, sends Captain Holly Short to London. She needs to find out what caused the problem.

Holly finds Artemis. He convinces her to help Butler. They use fairy magic and a special freezing method to save him. Butler's life is saved, but he looks about 15 years older. Artemis tells Holly and Foaly the centaur about the C Cube. Foaly is the LEPrecon's tech expert.

The Plan to Get It Back

Jon Spiro wants to unlock the C Cube's secrets. He hires a group of tricky people from Chicago. They are supposed to capture Artemis. One of their helpers is the dwarf Mulch Diggums. He is sent with another helper, Loafers, to Fowl Manor. Mulch is caught, but Juliet, Butler's younger sister, stops Loafers. Juliet has just returned from a training academy.

Commander Root gives Artemis 48 hours to get the C Cube back. After that, a full fairy team will come in. Artemis creates a clever plan. He will get the C Cube from Spiro's office in Chicago. Holly, Mulch, and Juliet will help him. Root demands that the humans have their memories wiped after the mission. So, Artemis leaves Butler in Ireland. This is to make sure Butler's memories are safe.

The Successful Heist

The plan works! Artemis gets the C Cube back. He tricks Spiro into going to a rival company's building. Spiro tries to steal their new products. The Chicago police quickly arrive and arrest Spiro and his group. Foaly makes sure Artemis's actions are not seen on security cameras.

Holly and Juliet help Artemis escape the crime scene. They return to Ireland with Mulch. Arno Blunt, who shot Butler, tries to go to Ireland to hurt Artemis. But Butler catches him. Butler scares Blunt into telling the police what he did.

Artemis's Clever Trick

Commander Root then has the three humans' memories wiped. Holly uses her magic to check Artemis. She wants to see if any memories could be triggered later. But Artemis has a secret plan. He had Butler make three special contact lenses. These lenses stop the memory wipe from working.

Artemis's plan to get his memories back involves Mulch Diggums. Artemis changes the date on Mulch's search warrant. This makes all of Mulch's past arrests invalid. Before his memory wipe, Artemis gives Mulch a gold medallion. This medallion is actually a computer disc. It holds all of Artemis's memories. Mulch is put in jail, but he knows that "together they will be unstoppable."

Secret Messages in the Book

Codes on the Cover

In the European versions of the book, there is a code on the cover. It says "Think fairy, think again." This was the slogan for the first Artemis Fowl book. This code is not in Gnommish or Centaurian. It is supposedly written in the "eternity code." This is the same code that protects the C Cube.

Hidden Message Inside

In the hardcover book, there is a code printed on the spine. You can find it under the dustjacket. This code spells out "Eoin Colfer Artemis Fowl The Eternity Code Puffin." Readers can use this to figure out a secret message inside the book. The message is from Artemis. He asks the reader to help him get his memories back. He wants them to spread the message that Artemis Fowl must find Mulch Diggums.

In newer printings of the book, the Eternity Code is changed to Gnommish.
