Arthel Helena Neville (born October 20, 1962) is an American journalist and television personality. She is a weekend news anchor for Fox News, working from Manhattan, New York City. She often works alongside co-anchor Eric Shawn.
Arthel Neville is the daughter of Doris Neville and Art Neville. Her father was a famous singer, songwriter, and keyboard player. He won a Grammy Award and founded several music groups, including The Meters and The Neville Brothers. Arthel is also the niece of Grammy Award-winning singer Aaron Neville.

Early Life and Education
Arthel Neville was born and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. She went to St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans. After high school, she moved to New York City to try acting and modeling. She appeared in commercials and had a small part in the TV show All My Children.
Later, she returned to New Orleans. She first studied pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana. Then, she changed her mind and decided to study journalism at Southern Methodist University. She later moved to the University of Texas at Austin. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism. While studying, she also worked as a reporter.
Journalism Career Highlights
Arthel Neville started her career as a reporter at KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas. She was still a student at the University of Texas at Austin at the time. She was the first African-American woman to be an on-air reporter at KVUE-TV. She covered many different stories, including breaking news, politics, and human-interest topics.
After graduating, Neville worked as a reporter and anchor for WWL in New Orleans. In 1988, she moved to Houston to work for KHOU-TV. She then returned to New Orleans to work for WVUE.
Hosting and Entertainment News
In 1991, Arthel Neville became the host of Extreme Close-Up on E! Entertainment TV. This show featured one-on-one interviews with celebrities. She also helped produce the show. Over three years, she interviewed more than 200 Hollywood stars and music artists. This made her the first well-known Black female entertainment reporter in the country. She also sometimes filled in as a guest host on Talk Soup.
In 1994, she was chosen to launch and anchor Extra for Warner Brothers studios. She was the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated entertainment news program. She stayed with Extra until 1996. In 1997, she co-hosted The Arthel & Fred Show, another entertainment news program.
Moving to National News
A year later, Neville moved to New York. She became a senior correspondent for Fox Files on the Fox Network. She also worked at Fox News as an anchor and host of Celebrity Spotlight. She was a regular contributor on The O'Reilly Factor.
Arthel Neville also co-hosted the Miss Teen USA 1993 pageant and the Miss Universe 1994 pageant. She appeared on several TV shows, including Days of Our Lives, Monk, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
In 2002, Neville joined CNN. She became the host of TalkBack Live with Arthel Neville. This made her the first African-American woman to host her own main show on CNN. The show discussed daily news and allowed viewers to interact live. While at CNN, she also anchored morning and daytime news. She co-anchored weekend news with Anderson Cooper.
Later Career and Recognition
In 2003, the University of Texas at Austin honored Arthel Neville. She received the Texas Exes' Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award. This award is given to alumni under 45 who have achieved great success in their careers.
Later, Neville co-hosted Good Day Live on Fox. She also hosted Celebrity Hobbies on the DIY Network. She was a correspondent for the 2005 revival of A Current Affair. She received praise for her reporting on Hurricane Katrina in her hometown of New Orleans. In 2006, she joined Geraldo at Large as a bureau chief. She also guest co-hosted The View.
On August 1, 2008, Neville became the main anchor for the Fox 5 Morning News in San Diego. She was nominated for San Diego Magazine's 2009 Woman of the Year Award.
Neville was also a regular guest on HLN Showbiz Tonight. In May 2009, her show Conversations with Arthel Neville began airing on My Channel in the United Kingdom.
In June 2010, Neville returned to Fox News. She became a news anchor for shows like America's Newsroom and America's News Headquarters. She also contributed to The O'Reilly Factor. She reported from New Orleans for the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Arthel Neville is currently the weekend anchor at Fox News. She hosts "Fox News Live" newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays.
In 2016, the University of Texas at Austin honored Neville again as a Distinguished Alum. In 2017, she received the DeWitt Carter Reddick journalism award from the Moody College of Communication. She was the first African American woman to receive this award.
Also in 2017, Neville started her own accessories line called Arthel Neville Design. It features handbags with quotes about female empowerment. She also hosted "Sing Like A Star," a singing competition filmed in New Orleans.
On May 18, 2018, Neville was the main speaker at the graduation ceremony for the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.
On March 5, 2021, her weekend newscast with co-anchor Eric Shawn was renamed "Fox News Live."
Personal Life
Arthel Neville was married to former NFL running back Derrick Lassic from 1995 to 1998. She has been married to percussionist and recording artist Taku Hirano since 2001.
