Arthel Helena Neville (born October 20, 1962) is an American journalist and television personality. She is a weekend anchor for Fox News in Manhattan. She works alongside co-anchor Eric Shawn.
Arthel is the daughter of Doris Neville and Art Neville. Her father was a Grammy Award-winning singer and musician. He founded famous New Orleans music groups like The Hawketts, The Meters, and The Neville Brothers. Her uncle, Aaron Neville, is also a Grammy Award-winning singer. Her cousin, Ivan Neville, is also a singer.

Her Early Life and Education
Arthel Neville was born and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. She went to St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans. After high school, she went to New York City to try acting and modeling. She appeared in commercials and had a small part in the TV show All My Children.
Later, she returned to New Orleans. She first studied pre-pharmacy at Xavier University. Then she changed her major to journalism at Southern Methodist University. She later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism. She also worked as a reporter while studying.
Starting Her TV Career
Arthel began her career as a reporter at KVUE-TV. She was still a student at the University of Texas at Austin. She was the first African-American female on-air reporter at KVUE-TV. She covered live breaking news, politics, and human-interest stories in Austin.
After graduating, Arthel worked as a reporter and anchor for WWL in New Orleans. In 1988, she moved to Houston to report for KHOU-TV. She then returned to New Orleans as an anchor and reporter for WVUE.
Breaking Barriers in Entertainment News
In 1991, Arthel became the host of Extreme Close-Up on E! Entertainment TV. This show featured one-on-one interviews with celebrities. She also helped produce the show. She interviewed over 200 Hollywood stars and music icons. This made her the first high-profile Black female entertainment reporter in the country. She also sometimes filled in as a guest host on Talk Soup.
In 1994, Arthel was chosen to launch and anchor Extra. This made her the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated entertainment news program. She stayed with Extra until 1996.
She also co-hosted the Miss Teen USA 1993 pageant with Dick Clark. She co-hosted the Miss Universe 1994 pageant in Manila, Philippines. Arthel has also appeared on several TV shows. These include Days of Our Lives, Monk, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Her Time at CNN and Fox News
In 2002, Arthel joined CNN. She became the host of TalkBack Live with Arthel Neville. This made her the first African-American woman to host her own show on CNN. The show discussed daily news and included live interactions with guests and the audience. While at CNN, she also anchored morning and daytime news. She co-anchored weekend news with Anderson Cooper.
Later, Arthel co-hosted Good Day Live for Fox. She also hosted Celebrity Hobbies on the DIY Network. In 2005, she was a correspondent for A Current Affair. She received praise for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina in her hometown of New Orleans.
In 2006, she joined Geraldo at Large as a bureau chief and correspondent. She also guest co-hosted The View. From 2008 to 2010, Arthel was the lead anchor for Fox 5 Morning News in San Diego.
In June 2010, Arthel returned to Fox News. She became a news anchor for shows like America's Newsroom and America's News Headquarters. She also contributed to The O'Reilly Factor. She reported from New Orleans for the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Awards and Recognition
In 2003, the University of Texas at Austin honored Arthel. She received the Texas Exes' Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award. This award is given to young alumni who have achieved excellence in their fields.
In 2016, she was honored again by the University of Texas at Austin. She was named a Texas Exes 2016 Distinguished Alum.
In 2017, Arthel received the DeWitt Carter Reddick journalism award. She was the first African-American female to receive this award from the Moody College of Communication. Famous past recipients include Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather.
What She's Doing Now
Arthel Neville is currently the weekend anchor at Fox News. She hosts "Fox News Live" newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays.
In 2017, Arthel started other projects. She launched her accessories line, Arthel Neville Design. It features handbags with quotes that encourage female empowerment.
She was also announced as the host of "Sing Like A Star" by Tegna, Inc.. This singing competition is filmed in New Orleans. It debuted in September 2017.
On May 18, 2018, Arthel was the main speaker at the graduation ceremony for her alma mater. This was the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.
Her Family Life
Arthel Neville has been married to percussionist and recording artist Taku Hirano since 2001. She was previously married to former NFL running back Derrick Lassic from 1995 to 1998.
