The 5th season of the popular TV show Arthur first aired in the United States on PBS. It ran from September 25 to November 27, 2000. This season has 10 episodes, which means 20 different stories. The special episode "Arthur's Perfect Christmas" was the last one for this season.
Some changes happened behind the scenes for this season. Steven Crowder started voicing the character Brain. He took over from Luke Reid. Also, this was the last season where Michael Yarmush voiced Arthur. His voice was changing as he got older. But don't worry, he came back later! In season 9, he started voicing Slink, one of the Tough Customers. A famous game show host, Alex Trebek, even appeared in the first episode. He played a character named Alex Lebek.
New people also joined the team making the show. Peter Moss became an executive producer. Lesley Taylor took over as a producer. The main writers, Joe Fallon and Ken Scarborough, left to work on another show. But Joe Fallon was still listed as an executive story editor for this season.
This season of Arthur was very successful! It won a Daytime Emmy Award. This award was for Outstanding Children's Animated Program. It was also nominated for another award for its sound mixing. In 2001, the season won a special Peabody Award. This award celebrates excellent and educational TV shows.
