Arthur Decabooter (born 3 October 1936 – died 26 May 2012) was a famous Belgian professional racing cyclist. He rode bikes professionally from 1959 to 1967. He was known for being a strong rider in "classic" one-day races. His nickname was "El Toro," which means "The Bull" in Spanish, showing how powerful he was.

Arthur Decabooter was related to another well-known cyclist, Walter Godefroot, who was his wife's brother-in-law.

Arthur's Cycling Career

Arthur Decabooter mostly rode for the Groene Leeuw team during his career. He also spent a few years with other teams like Libéria-Grammont in 1962 and Solo from 1963 to 1964. He was a very successful road cyclist, winning many important races.

Grand Tour Success

  • In 1960, he won the points classification at the Vuelta a España. This is a major cycling race that lasts for several weeks. Winning the points classification means he earned the most points by finishing high in many stages.
  • He also won three individual stages in the Vuelta a España. He won two stages in 1960 and another stage in 1961. Winning a stage means he was the fastest rider on that specific day of the race.

Classic Races

Arthur Decabooter was especially good at one-day "classic" races, which are long and challenging events.

  • In 1960, he won the Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen). This is one of the most famous and toughest one-day races in cycling, held in Belgium.
