Discovering Arthurton

Arthurton officially became a town on January 25, 1877. This means it was recognized as a place where people could live and build a community.

How Arthurton Got Its Name

The town of Arthurton has an interesting story behind its name. It was named after a person called Arthur. Arthur was the son of Anthony Musgrave, who was the Governor of South Australia at the time.

The Governor really wanted the town to be named after his son, Arthur. This happened even though the place already had a different name, "Kalkabury." But the Governor's wish was granted, and the town became known as Arthurton.
