Aryana Sayeed (born in 1985) is a famous Afghan pop singer. She is also known for being an activist for women's rights. Aryana sings mostly in Dari Persian. She also has many songs in Pashto and some in Uzbek.
Besides singing, Sayeed has hosted music TV shows. She appeared on reality shows too. Aryana Sayeed is one of Afghanistan's most well-known modern singers. She often performs in concerts and charity events. These events take place both inside and outside Afghanistan.
Early Life and Education
Aryana Sayeed was born in 1985 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her father was Pashtun and her mother spoke Dari. When she was 8 years old, her family moved from Afghanistan. They lived in Pakistan, Switzerland, and then settled in London, England.
By age 12, she joined a music school. She sang in a choir there. Aryana said that this experience helped her realize what she wanted to be when she grew up.
Music Career
Aryana Sayeed released her first song, "MashAllah," in 2008. But her career really took off in 2011. This was after her song Afghan Pesarak came out. Aryana Sayeed became very popular with Afghan families living outside Afghanistan. She was asked to perform at many concerts worldwide.
With this sudden success, Aryana decided to go back to Afghanistan. She performed at concerts in her home country. She became even more famous there with her version of an old Afghan song, Gule Seb. During this time in Afghanistan, she filmed her next song, Dilam Tang Ast. This song was very successful. It won an award for the best song filmed inside Afghanistan. This also led to a new job for her. She became a TV host at a top entertainment channel in Afghanistan.
Her next song, Hairanam, also did well. Sayeed's next big hit was Jelwa. This song was a team-up with another leading Afghan pop singer, Jawid Sharif. It was their second time working together after their first hit, Biya Biya. Aryana then released an upbeat song about sports. It was called Afghanistan Afghanistan. Several singers joined her to make this song.
Sayeed's song Banoo e Atash Nasheen is very special. It talks about the challenges women in Afghanistan have faced. This song received a lot of praise. A large orchestra helped create the music for the song. The video was filmed inside Afghanistan. After the song was released, the BBC interviewed Aryana. She explained the meaning behind her song. Her next big hit was Anaram Anaram. This song put Aryana back at the top of the music charts in Afghanistan.
In 2019, Sayeed won the Afghan Icon Award. She was also named the Best Female Artist of Afghanistan in 2017. Television Career
Soon after her music success, Aryana Sayeed joined 1TV. This is a major entertainment channel in Afghanistan. Her show was called Music Night (Shab-e Mosiqi). On the show, she performed and interviewed other artists. The show was very popular. After the first season, Aryana went back to London.
Later, Aryana Sayeed joined TOLO TV. In 2013, she became one of the judges on The Voice of Afghanistan. She continued working with TOLO TV. She later became a judge on another talent show, Afghan Star.
Activism
Sayeed supported the #WhereIsMyName campaign. This campaign worked to change Afghan law. It aimed to make sure women's names could be on identity cards. This change eventually happened.
Aryana Sayeed loves Afghanistan and also has a special liking for India. She has called India a "true friend" to Afghanistan.
Aryana had the honor of performing at UNESCO’s 75th Anniversary. This event was in Paris, France. She represented Afghanistan there. Many presidents and prime ministers from different countries were present. Aryana dedicated her performance to Afghanistan. She also dedicated it to all those who have lost their homes. She sang for those living in other countries as refugees.
Personal Life
Sayeed got engaged to her manager, Hasib Sayed, in 2018.
In August 2021, the Taliban took control of Kabul. Aryana was evacuated from Kabul to Doha, Qatar. She left on an American military flight. As of August 25, 2021, she was reported to be living in Los Angeles, California, in the United States.
Her niece, Nadia Nadim, is a famous football player. Nadia was only 11 when she fled to Denmark with her family as a refugee. She now plays for the Denmark national football team.
