Arzo was a small village in Switzerland. It was located in the southern part of the country. Arzo used to be its own independent municipality. A municipality is like a town or a local government area.

Arzo: A Swiss Village Story

Arzo was once a separate community. It was found in the Mendrisio area. This district is part of the Ticino canton. A canton is like a state or a region in Switzerland.

Where Was Arzo Located?

Arzo was situated in the canton of Ticino. This is the only canton in Switzerland where Italian is the official language. The village covered an area of about 2.82 square kilometers. That's roughly the size of 700 football fields!

In December 2007, Arzo had a population of 1,126 people. It was a quiet and close-knit community.

What Happened to Arzo?

On April 5, 2009, Arzo joined a larger city. It merged with the municipality of Mendrisio. This means Arzo is no longer a separate municipality. It is now a part of Mendrisio.

Several other villages also joined Mendrisio at the same time. These included Capolago, Genestrerio, Rancate, and Tremona. This merger helped to create a larger, stronger community.
