Rancate used to be a small town, or municipality, located in the Mendrisio area of Ticino, a canton (like a state) in Switzerland. It was a charming place with its own local government.
What Happened to Rancate?
Joining Mendrisio
On April 5, 2009, Rancate became part of a bigger town called Mendrisio. This happened when several smaller municipalities decided to join together.
The Big Merger
Rancate wasn't the only one! Five other municipalities also merged with Mendrisio on that day. These included Arzo, Capolago, Genestrerio, and Tremona. This kind of merger helps towns work together more efficiently. It can also make services better for everyone.
