Asaad Kelada is an Egyptian-American television director. He is well-known for directing many popular American TV shows called sitcoms. He was born on May 11, 1940.

Early Life and Education
Asaad Kelada was born in Cairo, Egypt. He studied drama at the American University in Cairo. There, he learned from a famous director named Youssef Chahine.
In 1961, Asaad Kelada moved to the United States. He continued his studies at the Yale School of Drama, focusing on directing.
A Career in Television Directing
Asaad Kelada started his career directing plays and teaching drama in the 1960s and 1970s. His first chance to direct for television came in 1976. He directed an episode of the sitcom Rhoda. The episode was titled "Rhoda Questions Her Life and Flies to Paris."
Since then, he has directed episodes for many famous sitcoms. These include Benson, WKRP in Cincinnati, The Facts of Life, and Family Ties.
Directing Who's the Boss?
One of his biggest projects was the show Who's the Boss?. Asaad Kelada directed 117 episodes of this popular sitcom. He also worked as a producer for 51 episodes of the show.

Asaad Kelada once shared his thoughts on directing comedy. He told DGA Magazine that choosing the right actors is super important for a funny show. He said, "you cannot make the actor be funny."
He also explained the difference between drama and comedy. Drama is more about thinking deeply, he said. But comedy is "much more technical." It's all about "rhythm, timing, pace, and energy." This means getting the jokes and reactions to happen at just the right moment.
