Asaphodes campbellensis is a small type of moth. It belongs to a group of moths called Geometridae. This special moth lives only on Campbell Island in New Zealand. This means it is endemic to that island. You won't find it anywhere else in the world! Scientists believe this moth's favorite food plant is a type of grass called Chionochloa.

About the Asaphodes campbellensis Moth
Discovering the Moth
A scientist named John S. Dugdale first officially described this moth. He did this in 1964. He gave it the name Xanthorhoe campbellensis at that time. He used a male moth specimen to study it. This moth was found at Shoal Point on Campbell Island. It was collected by K. Rennell.
Changing Its Name
Later, in 1971, John Dugdale decided to change the moth's scientific name. He moved it to a different group, or genus, called Asaphodes. This is why its full scientific name is now Asaphodes campbellensis. Scientists sometimes change names when they learn more about how living things are related.
