Asco is a small place in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
Asco was first known by a different name: Atlantic. Later, its name changed to Asco. This new name came from a company called the American Smokeless Coal Company, often shortened to ASCO. The community is located at the very end of a railway line that belongs to the Norfolk and Western Railroad. This railway line is in a place called Davy Branch hollow.
