Ashford is a small village located in the north-west of New South Wales, Australia. It sits on the Northern Tablelands, about 748 kilometers (465 miles) north of Sydney. The village is close to the border with Queensland and is about 430 meters (1,410 feet) above sea level. Ashford is also 56 kilometers (35 miles) north of the town of Inverell. It is an important stop on a main road connecting major highways and leading towards Queensland.

Ashford has a history that goes back to the 1800s. The area first had a Post Office in 1853, which was called "Frazer's Creek." In 1863, its name was changed to Ashford.

The first police station in Ashford opened in 1864. A few years later, in 1868, the first school began teaching students. In 1867, a famous bushranger named Captain Thunderbolt rode through the area. Bushrangers were like outlaws who lived in the Australian bush.
