Ashlyn Michelle Harris (born October 19, 1985) is a retired American soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. She was a key player for the United States women's national soccer team.
Harris made her first appearance for the senior national team on March 11, 2013. She was part of the team that won the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. She also helped the team win again at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
Before playing professionally, Harris played college soccer for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. She helped them win three national championships. Harris played for many professional teams in the U.S. and Europe before retiring in 2022.

Early Life and High School Stardom
Ashlyn Harris was born in Satellite Beach, Florida. Growing up, she loved sports like skateboarding and surfing. She started playing soccer on boys' teams until she was 14.
Harris went to Satellite High School, where she was a soccer star. She helped her school team win state championships in 2002 and 2003. By her senior year, she was named the best high school soccer player in the nation by several organizations, including Gatorade. She was so good that she was named a Parade Magazine All-American four years in a row.
College Career at North Carolina
Harris played for the University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heels, one of the best college soccer programs. Her college career had a tough start with serious injuries, including two torn ACLs. An ACL is an important ligament in the knee.
Despite these challenges, Harris showed great strength and determination. She returned to help her team win the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship in 2006, 2008, and 2009. By her final season in 2009, she was the team's main goalkeeper and had an amazing record.
Professional Soccer Journey
Harris's professional career took her to many teams in the United States and Europe. As a goalkeeper, her job was to stop the other team from scoring.
Starting in the WPS
In 2010, Harris was drafted by the Saint Louis Athletica in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. She later played for the Washington Freedom.
In 2011, she joined the Western New York Flash. She had a fantastic season and was named the WPS Goalkeeper of the Year. She helped her team win the league championship by making a crucial save in a penalty shootout.
Playing in Europe
When the WPS league folded, Harris moved to Germany to play for FCR 2001 Duisburg. She later played in Sweden for Tyresö FF on a short-term loan. This allowed her to play with other top American players in the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Return to the U.S. with the NWSL

In 2013, a new league called the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) started in the U.S. Harris returned to play for the Washington Spirit. She was a key player for the team for three seasons.
In 2016, Harris joined a new team, the Orlando Pride, located in her home state of Florida. She quickly became a fan favorite. That year, she was named the NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year for her amazing saves. In 2021, she set a new NWSL record for the most career saves.
Her final professional season was in 2022 with NJ/NY Gotham FC. In November 2022, Harris announced her retirement from professional soccer.
International Career with Team USA
Harris had a long and successful career playing for the United States at different age levels.
Youth National Teams
Harris started playing for U.S. youth national teams when she was a teenager. She was the starting goalkeeper for the U-19 team that won the first-ever FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship in 2002. She was only 16 at the time. She became the most experienced player in U-19 history with 39 appearances.
Senior National Team

Harris received her first call-up to the main national team in 2009. She earned her first official cap (an appearance in a game) in 2013.
She was a member of two FIFA Women's World Cup winning teams:
- 2015 World Cup: Harris was part of the squad that won the championship in Canada.
- 2019 World Cup: She was on the team again when they won the title in France.
Harris was also part of the teams that won the CONCACAF Women's Championship in 2014 and 2018. She retired from the national team in 2022.
Personal Life
Off the soccer field, Harris is known for her unique style in fashion and her many tattoos. She has been a brand ambassador for the sports company Umbro.
Harris is also known for her work supporting important causes. She has spoken about the importance of mental health and has worked with the non-profit group To Write Love on Her Arms. She has also traveled to other countries to help promote sports for girls.
Harris was married to fellow soccer player Ali Krieger from 2019 to 2023. They have two adopted children, a daughter named Sloane and a son named Ocean. Since 2023, she has been in a relationship with actress Sophia Bush.
