Assawoman Bay is a cool body of water located in the United States. It's a type of bay called a lagoon. A lagoon is a shallow body of water that is partly separated from a larger sea or ocean.
This bay sits right between Ocean City, Maryland and the main part of the Delmarva Peninsula. The Delmarva Peninsula is a large piece of land that includes parts of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
Assawoman Bay was once known as Assawoman Sound. It's found on the northern side of Ocean City. If you go to the southern end of Ocean City, you'll find another bay called the Isle of Wight Bay.
There's also a smaller bay nearby called Little Assawoman Bay. This smaller bay reaches into southern Delaware. It's actually separated from the main Assawoman Bay. A narrow channel, often called "The Ditch," connects them. This ditch crosses a special boundary line known as the Transpeninsular Line.
Sometimes, people call the main Assawoman Bay "Big Assawoman Bay." This helps to tell it apart from the smaller Little Assawoman Bay. It's often said in a funny or lighthearted way.
