Assean Lake is a beautiful lake in Manitoba, Canada. It is located about 125 kilometers (about 78 miles) northeast of the town of Thompson, Manitoba. This lake is also found just west of another lake called Split Lake.

Assean Lake is part of a special area known as the Thompson Belt. This area is known for its unique rocks and land features. Around Assean Lake, you will find a thick layer of different types of soil. This soil includes clay, silt, and sand. It can be up to 20 meters (about 65 feet) thick.
What Does the Name Mean?
The name "Assean Lake" comes from the Cree language. The Cree word is ᐊᓯᓃᐊᐧᐣ, which is pronounced "asinîwan." This word means "a place with many stones." So, Assean Lake is truly a "stony lake." You might also see the name spelled as Asseyan or Assigan.
