Rivers Connected to Split Lake

Two important rivers, the Burntwood River and the Nelson River, flow into the western side of Split Lake. Just before the Nelson River enters the lake, another river called the Grass River joins it. The Nelson River then flows out from the eastern end of Split Lake, continuing its journey.

A Glimpse into History

Long ago, in 1798 and 1799, the Hudson's Bay Company had a temporary trading post near Split Lake. This company was very important in Canada's early history, especially for fur trading.
