Assembly of Kosovo facts for kids
The Assembly of Kosovo (Serbian: Скупштина Косова, Skupština Kosova) is like the main government meeting place for Kosovo. It's where important decisions are made for the people living there. The United Nations helped create this Assembly to make sure Kosovo has a fair and democratic way of governing itself.
How the Assembly Works
The Assembly of Kosovo has 120 spots, called "seats," for people who represent the citizens. Think of it like a big classroom with 120 desks for the elected members.
- Elected Members: 100 of these seats are filled by people who are directly chosen by voters in elections. This means the citizens of Kosovo vote for who they want to represent them.
- Special Seats for Groups: The remaining 20 seats are set aside for different groups of people living in Kosovo. This makes sure that smaller communities also have a voice in the government. Here's how these 20 seats are shared:
* 10 seats are for people representing the Serbs. * 4 seats are for representatives of the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptians. * 3 seats are for the Bosniaks. * 2 seats are for the Turks. * 1 seat is for the Gorans.
This system helps make sure that many different voices and ideas are heard when the Assembly makes laws and decisions for Kosovo.
