They secured this win on March 1, 2009, after a 2–2 tie with Santa Cruz-RN. This victory earned them a spot in the final match. It also gave them a chance to play in the 2010 Copa do Brasil.
Winning the State Championship
ASSU won the Campeonato Potiguar on May 1, 2009. This was a huge achievement for the young club. Winning this championship also meant they could play in the 2009 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. However, the club decided not to join that competition. In the same year, 2009, ASSU also won the Copa RN.

This showed the club's commitment to developing young talent.
