Asterivora iochondra is a type of moth that belongs to the Choreutidae family. This moth is special because it is found only in New Zealand. It was first officially described by a scientist named Edward Meyrick in 1911.
What Does It Look Like?
This moth is quite small. Its wingspan is usually between 16 and 17 millimeters. That's about the length of a small fingernail!
Body and Head
The head and the main part of its body, called the thorax, are dark brown. You might notice a few tiny whitish spots on them. The antennae, which are like feelers, are dark with small white dots. The back part of its body, the abdomen, is also dark brown.
Wings
The front wings of Asterivora iochondra are a dark, shiny bronze-brown color. They are somewhat rectangular in shape. The top edge of the wing is slightly curved, and the tip is rounded. The outer edge is also rounded and slopes a little. Near the base of these wings, there are tiny violet-white specks. There's also a faint, zig-zag line made of these specks that goes across the wing.
The back wings are dark brown and shaped like a triangle with rounded corners. Their outer edge is slightly rounded.
