Atsuhiro Miura (三浦 淳寛, Miura Atsuhiro, born July 24, 1974) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented midfielder who played for several clubs in Japan. He also represented the Japanese national team in many important tournaments. He is not related to another famous Japanese footballer, Kazuyoshi Miura.
Club Career Highlights
Miura was born in Oita on July 24, 1974. He started his professional football journey in 1994 with Yokohama Flügels. He quickly became a regular player by 1995, often playing as a left midfielder.
With Yokohama Flügels, he helped the team win the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 1995. This was a big achievement for the club. In 1998, they also won the 1998 Emperor's Cup, a major Japanese football tournament. However, the club had to close down at the end of 1998 because of money problems.
After Yokohama Flügels disbanded, Miura moved to Yokohama F. Marinos in 1999. He played there for two seasons. In 2001, he joined Tokyo Verdy. During his time at Tokyo Verdy, he sometimes had fewer chances to play. This was especially true when he was away playing for the Japanese national team.
In 2005, Miura moved to Vissel Kobe. He even became the team captain there. However, by 2007, his playing time started to decrease. In August 2007, he made another move to Yokohama FC. This club was actually started by supporters of his old team, Yokohama Flügels. Atsuhiro Miura played for Yokohama FC until the end of the 2010 season, when he retired from playing professional football.
National Team Journey
Atsuhiro Miura made his first appearance for the Japanese national team on June 6, 1999, in a match against Peru. He also played in the 1999 Copa America that year.
In September 2000, he was chosen to play for the Japan U-23 national team in the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was one of the "over-age" players allowed to join the under-23 squad.
Later that year, in October, he played in the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. Japan performed very well and won the championship! In 2001, he also participated in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup, where Japan finished in second place.
Miura was called up to the national team again in 2003 after a two-year break. He sometimes played as a left side-back. He was also part of the Japanese squad for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup, which Japan won again. He was also selected for the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. However, he did not get to play in any matches during these two tournaments.
Overall, Atsuhiro Miura played 25 games for Japan and scored 1 goal before his national team career ended in 2005.
