The Atwood Museum is a cool place in Chatham, Massachusetts. It's owned by the Chatham Historical Society. They bought this special property in 1926. Their goal was to save old things and stories about Chatham's past. The main part of the museum is a very old house. It was built around 1752! That makes it one of the oldest buildings in Chatham. The museum has been open to everyone since it was bought. You can visit from mid-June to mid-October. If you're a researcher, you can visit any time by making an appointment.

Discover the Atwood Museum

The Atwood Museum is more than just an old house. Over the years, new parts have been added. These additions give the museum more space. This extra room helps them show off even more cool collections.

What You'll See Inside

In 2005, the museum got a big new expansion. This new area has large galleries. You can learn all about commercial fishing in the area. There are also displays of old tools. Another part shows the life and work of a famous local author. His name was Joseph Crosby Lincoln.

Exploring the Grounds

Outside the museum, there's a special herb garden. It's designed to look like gardens from a long time ago. You can also see a lighthouse turret. This turret came from Chatham's famous Twin Light. That lighthouse helped guide ships from 1808 until 1923. You can visit the turret when the museum is open.

Museum Shop and Accessibility

The museum has a gift shop too. You can find unique gifts, books, and accessories there. These items are often related to the museum's collections. The museum buildings are easy to get around. They are wheelchair accessible. Plus, they have air conditioning to keep you cool.
