Auburn railway station is a train station in Melbourne, Australia. It serves the eastern part of Melbourne, specifically the area called Auburn, which is inside the suburb of Hawthorn. This station is an important stop for trains on the Lilydale, Belgrave, and Alamein lines.
History of Auburn Station
The station first opened its doors on 3 April 1882. When it first started, it was called Auburn Road. A few months later, on 1 September 1882, its name was changed to just Auburn.
The main building you see at the station today was built in 1916. This happened when the train tracks between Hawthorn and Camberwell were updated. The building has a special design with brick and stucco (a type of plaster) walls, and it features arched windows and doorways. Because of its unique look and age, it is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, which means it's an important historical building.
