Saint Augustine of Hippo
Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD) was a very important Christian leader and writer. He is often called a "Church Father" because his ideas helped shape Christian beliefs for centuries. He was born in a Roman town in what is now Algeria, North Africa.
Augustine wrote many books and letters. His most famous works are "Confessions" and "City of God." "Confessions" tells the story of his life and his journey to becoming a Christian. "City of God" discusses how faith and society connect.
He became a bishop in the city of Hippo Regius (modern-day Annaba, Algeria). He is considered a saint by many Christian churches. He is also the patron saint of the Augustinians, a group of religious orders.

- Augustine of Canterbury (died 604 AD) was a monk sent by the Pope to England. He became the first Archbishop of Canterbury. He played a big role in bringing Christianity to the Anglo-Saxons in England.
- Mar Augustine Kandathil (1874-1956) was an important religious leader in India. He was the first Indian Archbishop and the first head of the Catholic St. Thomas Christians.
- Norman Ralph Augustine (born 1935) is an American engineer and businessman. He is known for his work in the aviation and aerospace industries.
- Some of the Vietnamese Martyrs also had Augustine as part of their names. These were people who died for their Christian faith in Vietnam.
