A Look Back in Time
The Austin area was once a part of Cicero Township. But in 1899, Austin became part of the big city of Chicago. This process is called annexation, which means one area officially joins another. After Austin joined Chicago, the old town hall site eventually became part of the Chicago Park District. The Chicago Park District is a group that manages all the parks in Chicago, making sure they are well-maintained and fun for everyone.
The Amazing Fieldhouse
One of the most impressive parts of Austin Town Hall Park is its fieldhouse. This building was designed in the 1920s by architects named Michaelsen and Rognstad. They were inspired by a very famous building: Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Independence Hall is where the Declaration of Independence was signed, so it's a really important historical building!
