Austroaeschna is a special group, or genus, of dragonflies. These fascinating insects are part of a bigger family known as Telephlebiidae. You can find most Austroaeschna dragonflies living in Australia.
These dragonflies are usually brown or black. They often have dull or bright markings that make them stand out. One type of Austroaeschna dragonfly lives in south-western Australia. Other kinds are native to eastern Australia, meaning they naturally live there.
