Elliot Pinhey was an entomologist. This means he was a scientist who studied insects. Elliot Pinhey worked a lot in Africa. He helped us learn so much about dragonflies and many other insect groups. Naming the dragonfly after him was a way to show respect for his important work.

For a while, scientists thought the Inland Darner was a type of Austroaeschna unicornis. It was seen as a subspecies. But recently, they decided it was different enough to be its own unique species.
