Avery Lawrence Schreiber (born April 9, 1935 – died January 7, 2002) was an American actor and comedian. He was famous for his work on stage, television, and in movies. He became well-known in the 1960s as part of a funny comedy team with Jack Burns. Avery Schreiber played many different roles, mostly on TV shows called sitcoms. He was also very popular for his commercials for Doritos tortilla chips.

Life and Career of Avery Schreiber
Avery Schreiber was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Minnie and George Schreiber. He began his acting journey in Chicago at the Goodman Theatre. Later, he joined a famous comedy group called The Second City.
The Comedy Duo: Burns and Schreiber
Avery then teamed up with Jack Burns to create the comedy duo "Burns and Schreiber." They made several funny albums together. They also appeared on many television shows, making people laugh.
Famous for Doritos and TV Shows
Many people remember Schreiber from his Doritos commercials in the 1970s and 1980s. He was easy to spot with his big, bushy handlebar moustache and curly hair. His funny reactions were a big part of his comedy.
In 1965, Schreiber played Captain Manzini on the TV show My Mother the Car. In the summer of 1973, he co-hosted a comedy show called The Burns and Schreiber Comedy Hour. He was often a guest star on the sitcom Chico and the Man. He also appeared many times on the game show Match Game. He was even a guest on The Muppet Show in its first season.
Movie Roles and Teaching
Avery Schreiber also acted in several movies. Some of his film roles include The Monitors (1969), Don't Drink the Water (1969), and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993).
He continued to work in movies, TV, and theater throughout his life. He also taught improvisational theater techniques. This is a type of acting where performers make up scenes on the spot. He taught special classes at The Second City in both Chicago and Los Angeles.
Avery and his wife, Rochelle, had two children.
Death
In 1994, Avery Schreiber had a heart attack. This was caused by problems from diabetes. He had surgery to help his heart, but he never fully got better. He passed away from another heart attack on January 7, 2002. He was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Legacy
In 2003, a theater was opened in North Hollywood, California, named after him. It was first called the Avery Schreiber Theatre. In 2013, with approval from his wife Rochelle, its name changed to The Avery Schreiber Playhouse. It is located in the NoHo Arts District.
