Avery Wilson did not always see himself as a singer. His father heard him singing one day and realized he had a special talent. To help Avery and others, his father started holding "open mic nights." These events took place at one of the McDonald's restaurants his father managed.

The open mic nights gave local people a safe and fun place to perform. Avery was only 9 years old when these events started. He still goes back to help with them today.

After The Voice, Avery signed with Clive Davis and RCA Records. He returned to The Voice in 2015 to perform his new song, "If I Have To." He also performed at the BET Awards on June 28, 2015.
