Early Life and Start in Music

Avery Wilson didn't think he was a singer at first. But his father heard him singing and knew he had a special talent. To help Avery and other local kids, his father started open mic nights. These events took place at a McDonald's restaurant where his father worked. Avery was only 9 years old when he started performing there. He still goes back to help with these fun community events.

Avery grew up in Hamden, Connecticut. He went to Hamden Middle School. Later, he attended Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven, Connecticut.

Avery Wilson's Career Journey

One of Avery's first songs was a demo called Ringtone. His father sent it to a radio station in Connecticut. The song became popular in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. Music producer Sean Garrett discovered Avery and began working with him. In 2011, Avery won a competition called Next Teen Superstar in New York. In 2012, he released his own music project, On Top of the World.

Avery appeared on season 3 of The Voice when he was 16. He was on Cee Lo Green's team. Many people thought he would win the competition. However, he was eliminated on October 29, 2012. After The Voice, Avery signed with Clive Davis and RCA Records. He returned to The Voice in 2015 to sing "If I Have To." This was the first song from his first album. Avery also performed at the BET Awards in 2015.

On October 29, 2018, Avery released a 5-song project called FYI. The song "Dollar Bill" was the first single from this project. He also released "Wass the Move," which had a hip-hop sound. Other songs on FYI included "Do For You," "Use 2," and "Touch Down."

In 2019, Avery released another 4-song project called 8:34.

In 2024, Avery joined the cast of the Broadway show The Wiz. He played the role of the Scarecrow.
