The Migos was an American hip hop group from Lawrenceville, Georgia. They started in 2008. The group was made up of Southern rappers Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset. Quavo is from Athens, Georgia. Offset and Takeoff grew up in nearby Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Migos became very popular for their unique style of trap music in the 2010s. They released their first big song, "Versace", in 2013. They also had many other hit songs. These included "Fight Night" (2014) and "Look at My Dab" (2015). They had four songs reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. These hits were "Bad and Boujee" (2016), "MotorSport" (2017), "Stir Fry" (2018), and "Walk It Talk It" (2018).
Migos released their first album, Yung Rich Nation, in July 2015. In 2016, the group appeared as themselves in the TV show Atlanta. Their second album, Culture, came out in January 2017. It was a huge success, reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. They signed new deals and released Culture II in January 2018. This was their second number one album. In 2021, they released their fourth album, Culture III. This was the last album in their Culture series.
Sadly, on November 1, 2022, Takeoff passed away in Houston, Texas.

Early Life and Group Formation
The three members of Migos grew up together. Quavo's mother, Edna Marshall, raised them in Lawrenceville, Georgia. They listened to many famous hip hop artists as they grew up. Some of these included Outkast, Gucci Mane, and Lil Wayne.
Migos formed in 2008. They were originally called the Polo Club. The name 'Migos' comes from 'Three Amigos'. This name shows that the three members grew up together like close friends. Takeoff was Quavo's nephew. Offset was a classmate of Quavo. They all grew up in suburban Atlanta.
Music Career Highlights
First Songs and Big Hits
Migos released their first full project, a mixtape called Juug Season, in 2011. They followed this with another mixtape, No Label, in 2012.
In 2013, Migos released their breakthrough song "Versace". This song was produced by Zaytoven. It reached number 99 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Later that year, Canadian rapper Drake made the song even more famous. He added his own part to the song. On June 13, Migos released their mixtape Y.R.N. (Young Rich...). This mixtape included "Versace" and was praised by music critics.
More Mixtapes and First Album
On February 25, 2014, Migos released No Label 2. This mixtape was downloaded over 100,000 times in its first week. It received good reviews from music critics. In June 2014, Migos signed a deal with 300 Entertainment. Their song "Fight Night" became a hit. It reached number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
On February 5, 2015, Migos released "One Time". This was the first song from their upcoming album. Migos' first album, Yung Rich Nation, was released on July 31, 2015. It featured other artists like Chris Brown and Young Thug. The album received positive reviews. In its first week, it sold 15,000 copies. It reached number 3 on the Top Rap Albums Charts.
In September 2015, Migos decided to manage their music more independently. They left 300 Entertainment. They felt that their other label, Quality Control Music, could handle them alone. This also helped them earn more money from their shows. On September 17, 2015, Migos released a new mixtape called Back to the Bando. The song "Look at My Dab" from this mixtape became very popular. It led to the worldwide dance craze called "dabbing".
The Culture Albums and Takeoff's Passing
On October 28, 2016, Migos released "Bad and Boujee". This was the first song from their new album, Culture. The song featured rapper Lil Uzi Vert. Its music video came out on October 31. "Bad and Boujee" became Migos' first number one song in the US.
Their second album, Culture, was released on January 27, 2017. In April, Migos were featured on Katy Perry's song "Bon Appétit". On October 27, Migos released "MotorSport". This was the first song from their third album, Culture II. It featured Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. The second song, "Stir Fry", came out on December 20, 2017. This song was used for the 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend.
On January 26, 2018, Culture II was released. This album had twenty-four songs. In October 2018, Quavo announced that Culture III would be released later. The album was delayed several times, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 17, 2021, the group announced that Culture III would be released on June 11 of that year.
In October 2022, Quavo and Takeoff released an album together without Offset. It was called Only Built for Infinity Links.
Tributes to Takeoff
On November 1, 2022, Takeoff passed away.
On February 22, 2023, Quavo released a music video for his song "Greatness". This song was written to honor Takeoff. On June 25, 2023, Quavo and Offset performed together. They reunited for a special tribute to Takeoff at the BET Awards 2023.
