Early Life and Music Start
Sean Garrett was born in Atlanta, Georgia. When he was four, his family moved to Europe because his father was in the U.S. military. They moved often between army bases in Germany and England.
When he was 17, Sean Garrett performed in talent shows. This led to him getting a music contract. A few years later, he returned to the U.S. and started writing and recording his own songs. He always saw himself as an artist, not just a songwriter. He also went to college and earned a degree in business from the University of Maryland's program in Germany. After that, he worked as a mortgage broker in South Carolina.
Music Career Highlights
Sean Garrett began his career as a performer. His first album, Turbo 919, came out on June 21, 2008. It was released through his own music company, Bet I Penned It Music, and Interscope Records. Sean Garrett is known for his catchphrase, "Smash on the radio, bet I penned it," which you can hear in many songs he has produced. This phrase means he wrote the hit song.
The rapper Ludacris was featured on Sean Garrett's first single, "Grippin'". In return, Sean Garrett was featured on Ludacris's song "What Them Girls Like" along with Chris Brown. Sean Garrett also wrote and produced "I Did It for Love" for the South Korean pop singer BoA. He was featured on the song and appeared in its music video.
In March 2010, Sean Garrett released "Get It All", the first single from his mixtape The Inkwell. This song featured Nicki Minaj. In 2011, he released "Feel Love" featuring J. Cole, and "In da Box" featuring Rick Ross.
