Avon Valley Country Park is a fun place to visit near Keynsham, in Somerset, England. It is a large country park, about 50 acres (20 hectares) in size. The park is located right next to the beautiful River Avon. It is a great spot for families and anyone who loves being outdoors.
The park offers many different activities. You can enjoy peaceful walks along the river, or have fun on the boating lake. There are also special play areas for kids to explore. If you love animals, you can visit the small petting zoo. And don't forget the exciting miniature railway!
This land has a long history. Hundreds of years ago, in the 1400s, it was used by local people to graze their animals. Later, it became a farm. In 1976, it was bought and first used as a "pick your own" fruit farm. Over time, it grew and became the country park we know today.
Miniature railway
One of the most popular attractions at Avon Valley Country Park is its miniature railway. It is called the "Strawberry Line." This railway is about three-quarters of a mile (1.2 kilometers) long. It is quite special because it is Britain's only commercial railway of its kind that runs at ground level.
The Strawberry Line first opened in 1999. It has a variety of trains. These include one steam engine that uses real steam! There are also ten other engines that look like diesel trains but are powered by batteries.
