Axel Rodrigues de Arruda (born January 9, 1970), known simply as Axel, is a Brazilian football coach and former player. He played as a midfielder during his career. Today, he is the head coach for São Caetano.
Axel played for many important clubs in Brazil. These included Santos Futebol Clube, São Paulo Futebol Clube, Clube Atlético Paranaense, Sport Club do Recife, Paraná Clube, and Figueirense Futebol Clube. He played in Brazil's top league, the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Axel's Playing Career
Axel started his professional football journey in 1990. He played for Santos until 1994. After that, he moved to São Paulo, where he played until 1997.
Playing in Spain and Japan
In 1997, Axel went to Spain to play for Sevilla. He played there for one season. Later, in 2003, he also played in Japan for Cerezo Osaka.
Return to Brazil
After his time abroad, Axel returned to Brazil. He played for several more clubs. These included Bahia, Atlético Paranaense, and Sport. He also played for Paraná Clube and Figueirense Futebol Clube. His last club was Portuguesa Santista in 2006.
Playing for Brazil's National Team
Axel also had the honor of playing for his country. He played one game for the Brazilian national team in 1992.
Axel's Coaching Career
After finishing his playing career, Axel became a football coach. He started coaching youth teams. He worked with the youth teams at Jabaquara.
Coaching Senior Teams
Axel later became a coach for senior teams. He coached Jabaquara and Taboão da Serra. He also worked as an assistant coach for the Brazil U17 team.
Current Coaching Role
Currently, Axel is the head coach of São Caetano. He first joined São Caetano as an assistant coach in 2021. He became the head coach in 2022 and continues in that role today.
