Azerbaijani Chess Championship facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Azerbaijani Chess Championship is a big chess tournament usually held in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) organizes this exciting event.

The very first championship took place way back in 1934. At that time, Azerbaijan was part of a larger region called the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic. For a while, the championships weren't held every single year. But since 1945, they have been held annually without a break. This tradition continues even today in independent Azerbaijan.
