The Azerbaijan Chess Federation (also known as AŞF) is the main group that organizes and promotes chess in Azerbaijan. It is connected to the World Chess Federation, called FIDE.
The Federation started in 1920 when Azerbaijan joined the Soviet Union. It was set up again in 1992 after Azerbaijan became an independent country. In the same year, it also joined FIDE. The main office of the Federation is in Baku.
