Aznalcázar is a town in southern Spain, located in the province of Seville. It's only about 20 minutes away from the big city of Seville. This town is special because it's one of 13 towns found inside Doñana National Park. This park is one of Spain's most important places for wildlife and nature.
Like many Spanish towns, Aznalcázar has a lively community. You can find several places to eat and drink, and they have fun annual festivals called "fiestas". There are also two supermarkets, a Spanish language school for people visiting from other countries, and three banks. If you like golf, there's even a golf course called Las Minas. You can easily travel from Aznalcázar to Seville and other nearby towns like El Rocío using public transportation.
A Peek into History
Aznalcázar might be the ancient town called Olontigi. Not much is known about Olontigi, but it was a settlement of the Tartessian people. The Tartessians were an ancient civilization in southern Spain. Olontigi made its own coins between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Experts believe Aznalcázar is the most likely place for this old town.
The name "Aznalcázar" comes from an old Arabic phrase. It means "Fortress of the palace". This tells us that there was once a strong fortress and palace here.
Cool Places to See
When you visit Aznalcázar, here are some interesting spots:
