Azzi Jazlyn Fudd (/ˈzi/ AY-zee; born November 11, 2002) is an American college basketball player. She plays for the UConn Huskies in the Big East Conference. Azzi went to St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C.. She was ranked as the top player in her class by ESPN. She also won national player of the year awards.

Fudd was part of the UConn team that played in the 2022 national championship game. As a senior, she helped UConn win the 2025 national championship.

High School Basketball Journey

In 2019, Azzi Fudd was named the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She was the first sophomore ever to win this award. That season, she averaged 26.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. She led her team to a great 35–1 record. They also won the District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) tournament title.

Training and Injuries

Before her sophomore year, Azzi was one of the first girls to join the SC30 Select Camp. This is a special training camp run by NBA MVP Stephen Curry. She even won the camp's three-point shooting contest.

Later, while playing in a 3x3 basketball championship, she had a serious knee injury. She tore ligaments in her right knee. This injury needed two surgeries to fix. Even while recovering, she went back to Curry's camp. She won the three-point contest again, even though she could only walk between shots.

Azzi returned to her St. John's team in January 2020. She averaged 19.2 points per game. Her season ended early because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In her senior year, she averaged 25.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.2 steals.

Becoming a Top Recruit

Azzi Fudd was a top-rated player, known as a five-star recruit. ESPN ranked her as the number one player in the class of 2021. She received her first scholarship offer in sixth grade from Maryland.

On November 11, 2020, Azzi announced she would play for UConn. She chose UConn over many other great schools. She was the 12th number-one recruit to sign with UConn since 1998. She also joined her good friend and fellow top recruit, Paige Bueckers.

College Basketball Career

Freshman Year Highlights

Azzi was named the Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year. She played her first college game for UConn on November 21, 2021. She scored seven points in a win against Arkansas. After playing four games, she missed 11 games due to a foot injury.

On February 6, 2022, Azzi made her first college start against Tennessee. She scored a career-high 25 points. In the next game, she scored 29 points against Villanova. During the Elite Eight, Azzi helped UConn win a double-overtime game against NC State. She scored 19 points in that game. She finished her freshman year averaging 12.1 points per game.

Sophomore Season Challenges

Azzi started her sophomore season on November 10, 2022. She scored 26 points in a big win against Northeastern. On November 14, she scored a new career-high of 32 points against Texas. Her 56 points in the first two games set a new UConn record.

On December 4, Azzi injured her right knee again during a game against Notre Dame. She missed several games. When she returned, she played 20 minutes and scored 15 points. However, she re-injured her knee shortly after. During her absence, UConn lost two games in a row for the first time in a long time. Azzi returned for the Big East tournament. She finished her sophomore season averaging 15.1 points per game.

Junior Season Setback

Azzi Fudd started her junior season on November 8, 2023. She scored 13 points in a win against Dayton. Sadly, on November 22, 2023, it was announced that she had torn her right ACL during practice. This injury ended her season early.

Senior Season Success

After recovering from her ACL injury, Azzi made her senior season debut on November 20, 2024. She scored four points in a limited 12 minutes against FDU. On February 12, she scored a career-high 34 points against St John’s. She also made eight three-pointers in that game, which is a record for UConn.

At the end of the 2025 regular season, Azzi was named to the All-Big East First Team. Her teammates Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong also made the team. On March 25, 2025, she announced she would return to UConn for her final season. On April 6, 2025, Azzi won her first national championship. She scored 24 points and had 5 rebounds in the final game. She also won the Most Outstanding Player award for her amazing performance. She finished her senior season averaging 13.6 points per game.

Playing for Team USA

Azzi Fudd has played for the United States in international competitions. She has won gold medals at:

  • The 2017 FIBA Under-16 Women's Americas Championship in Argentina.
  • The 2018 FIBA Under-17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Belarus.
  • The 2021 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Hungary.

Family Life

Both of Azzi Fudd's parents were basketball players. Her mother, Katie, played at NC State and Georgetown. Her father, Tim, played at American University. Azzi was named after Jennifer Azzi, a basketball player her mother admired. She has two younger brothers, Jon and Jose, and an older brother named Thomas.

Business Partnerships

Azzi Fudd has signed several deals with companies. In September 2021, she partnered with Chipotle. In November 2021, she became a partner with the sports drink company BioSteel Sports Nutrition. In December 2021, she signed a deal with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry's SC30 Inc. brand. This partnership includes sponsorship and mentoring from Stephen Curry. Azzi has also signed deals with Bose, Nerf, and Buick.

Other Activities

In 2023 and 2025, Azzi was invited to Kelsey Plum's Dawg Class. This is a camp sponsored by Under Armour. It helps top women college athletes get ready for professional basketball.
