Bílinská kyselka (pronounced Bee-lin-ska Kee-sel-ka) is a special kind of mineral water from the Czech Republic. It's also known as Biliner in English. This water comes from the town of Bílina and is famous for having many natural minerals.

This mineral water is "alkaline bicarbonate," meaning it has a lot of good minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. It also contains other important parts like chloride and sulfate. The water comes out of the ground at a temperature between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius (63 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit).

What makes Bílinská kyselka unique is that it's naturally fizzy! It has a lot of natural carbon dioxide gas, so it bubbles on its own. It's bottled just as it is, without adding any extra chemicals. The water is collected from deep underground, about 191 meters (627 feet) below a mountain called Bořeň. You can find Biliner water in Europe in cobalt blue bottles, usually in one-liter or 500-milliliter sizes.

The History of Biliner Water

People have known about Bílinská kyselka for a very long time. Near where the water comes out of the ground, a special place called a spa was built in the 16th century. This spa was known as Biliner Sauerbrunn Spa or Kyselka Spa. It was a place where people could go to drink the water for its health benefits.

Who Built the Spa?

The spa was built by a powerful and noble family called the House of Lobkowicz. They were important people in the region and helped make the spa famous. Over the centuries, many people visited the spa, hoping to feel better by drinking the mineral water.

Early Scientists and the Water

Some of the first scientists to study Bílinská kyselka were doctors who specialized in spas and mineral waters. They were called balneologists. Famous ones included Franz Ambrosius Reuss, August Emanuel von Reuss, and Josef von Löschner. They wrote important papers about the water and its properties. Their work helped people understand how special this natural water truly is.
