Standing Up for Her Country
In 2011, Hằng joined protests in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. She was protesting against Chinese claims over islands in the sea. These islands are called the Spratly and Paracel Islands.
After these protests, police arrested Hằng. She was sent to a place called Thanh Ha Education Center. This was a re-education camp in Vĩnh Phúc Province. A re-education camp is a place where people are sent, sometimes without a trial, to change their ideas or beliefs.
Many people around the world protested her arrest. She stayed in the re-education camp for six months without a trial.
Continuing Her Work
In 2012, Hằng was set free. She went back to her work helping people with human rights. Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. She wrote about her time in the Thanh Ha Education Center.
