The BAALS Music Festival is an exciting music festival that focuses on electronic dance music, dance music, and jam bands. This festival takes place in the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. It has been held every year since 2012. A special part of the festival is that it donates $5,000 to a local charity or non-profit organization each year.

The first festival happened in 2012. It was a downtown block party called House 4 a House. In 2014, the festival grew bigger and moved to Headwaters Park. That's when it changed its name to the BAALS Music Festival.

History of the BAALS Music Festival

The festival started on July 13, 2012. It was a block party event named House4aHouse. An advocacy group called A Better Fort hosted the party. They held it at the same time as another festival called The Three Rivers Festival.

This first block party was a big success. It raised $5,000 for a local non-profit group. About 2,000 people attended the event in its first year. Around that time, the city of Fort Wayne was in the news. This was because the city was thinking about naming a government building after a former mayor, Harry Baals. This idea led to some jokes on TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

In 2014, the festival organizers decided to change the event's name to BAALS. They said the new name was a fun way to acknowledge the recent attention the city had received. That same year, the festival grew even more. It attracted 10,000 attendees across two different events. The festival also moved to Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne.

Giving Back: Philanthropy at BAALS

The BAALS Music Festival is known for its generosity. Each year, it donates up to $5,000 to a chosen local charity. In its first three years, when it was organized by A Better Fort, the festival gave a total of $15,000. This money went to the Mad Anthony Children’s Hope House. This shows how the festival helps its community.
