The town is located in a flat area near the Lorze river. It started as a long village built along the road between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich. Since the 1960s, Baar has grown very quickly. It includes the main village of Baar and smaller areas that used to be tiny villages, like Allenwinden, Blickensdorf, and Inwil. It also includes the farm areas of Deinikon.
