A Look Back: Neuheim's History
Neuheim was first written about in the year 1080. Back then, its name was Niuheim.
In 1173, a special church called the St. Blasien parish church was built. A parish is like a church district. Neuheim then became the main place for its own parish.
At first, this parish was connected to a place called Einsiedeln. Later, in 1363, it moved to Kappel Abbey. An abbey is a type of monastery.
In 1512, the Abbey sold some rights to the parish's income. These rights went to the parishes of Menzingen and Neuheim. Finally, in 1675, the Neuheim parish gained full control over its own money.
Much later, in 1848, the town of Neuheim officially joined its parish. This made Neuheim independent from Menzingen.
