Harjeet Singh "Baba" Sehgal is a famous Indian rapper. Many people say he was the very first Indian rapper! He also works in other parts of the entertainment world. He acts and makes music in different languages. In 2006, he was on the TV show Bigg Boss.

Baba Sehgal's Life and Music Journey
Early Life and Start in Music
Baba Sehgal grew up in Lucknow, India. He studied engineering at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. His career in entertainment began in the 1990s. He became part of the Indipop music scene. His early albums were often played on MTV India.
He quickly became a popular rapper. Some of his big hit songs include 'Thanda Thanda Paani'. This song used a part of "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice. That song, in turn, used a part of "Under Pressure" by Queen. Other popular songs by Baba Sehgal are 'Manjula' and 'Dil Dhadke'.
His Amazing Music Albums
Baba Sehgal's first album was Dilruba in 1990. Then came Alibaba in 1991. His biggest hit album was Thanda Thanda Pani in 1992. It sold 5 million cassettes! This made it the first really successful Indian rap album.
He has released many more albums over the years. Some of them include Main Bhi Madonna, Baba Bachao na, and Welcome to Mumbai. He writes most of the music for his albums himself. He was also the music director for the movie Dance Party (1995). That movie had the popular song "kapurthala se aaya hoon".
Baba Sehgal was the first Indian artist to have a music video shown on MTV Asia. He also hosted a TV show called Superhit Muqabla on DD2. He often performs live on stage too.
From 2001 to 2005, he lived in New York. When he came back to Mumbai, he released his 22nd album, Welcome to Mumbai. He also directed music for Bollywood films like Bhoot Unkle (2006). He hosted the TV show 'Santa and Banta news unlimited' on Zoom. His song "Trump Ka Mania" supported Donald Trump and became very popular.
Today, he releases new songs on his YouTube channel, "Baba Sehgal Entertainment". Some of his recent songs are Aloo ka Parantha, Going to the Gym, and Swacchh Bharat. His song "Mumbai City" is a cool hip hop rap song about Mumbai. In 2024, he made his own version of "O Mere Dil Ke Chain", a famous song by Kishore Kumar.
Baba Sehgal's Acting Roles
In 1998, Baba Sehgal started acting in the Bollywood film Miss 420. He also sang four songs for that movie. In 1999, he played two different characters in the TV film Double Gadbad.
He appeared in the comedy TV series Jugni Chali Jalandhar in 2009. In 2011, he was in the drama show Rang Badalti Odhani. Baba Sehgal also acted in Telugu films, like Rudhramadevi (2015). This movie was directed by the award-winning director Gunasekhar. In 2016, he had a small role in the movie Bank Chor. That same year, he acted in his first Tamil film, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada.
He was also a contestant on the first season of Bigg Boss 1 in 2006.
