Bacardi 151 facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bacardi 151 was a special kind of rum that is no longer made. It was created by a company called Bacardi Limited. This rum was known for being very strong because it had a high amount of alcohol by volume.

The "151" in its name came from its alcohol level, which was 151 U.S. proof. This means it was 75.5% alcohol. Most regular rums have much less alcohol, usually around 35% to 40%. Bacardi 151 was sold in places like the United States and Canada from at least 1963 until 2016, when the company stopped making it.

Why it was Discontinued

Bacardi 151 was very flammable because it had so much alcohol. This meant it could easily catch fire. Because of this, the bottles had a special warning label. This label told people not to use the rum for things like flaming drinks or dishes.

The bottles also had a small metal part called a flame arrester in the neck. This part was designed to help stop the rum inside the bottle from catching fire. Even with these safety features, the product was eventually stopped, likely due to concerns about its flammability.

How it was Used

Bacardi 151 was often used in sweet mixed drinks. These drinks would combine the strong rum with fruit juices. Two examples of drinks that sometimes used Bacardi 151 were the Hurricane and Caribou Lou.
