The Bad Heart River is a small but important river in northern Alberta, Canada. It flows into the Smoky River, which is a bigger river. This river got its name from the native Cree language, where it's called maatsiti. This Cree name means the same thing as "Bad Heart."

Where the Bad Heart River Starts and Goes

The Bad Heart River begins in a hilly area called Saddle Hills County. This is in a region known as the Peace River Country in Alberta. It starts high up, about 930 meters (or 3,050 feet) above sea level. This is north of a town called Sexsmith and south of Rycroft.

As the river flows down from the Saddle Hills, it crosses Highway 2. Then, it moves towards the northeast. It also goes under Highway 733.

Journey to the Smoky River

The Bad Heart River continues its journey eastward. Along the way, it gets more water from a stream called Kakut Creek. After this, the river flows through a deep canyon. This canyon is about 150 meters (or 490 feet) deep!

Finally, the Bad Heart River empties into the Smoky River. This happens at a lower elevation, about 435 meters (or 1,427 feet) above sea level.

Streams Joining the River

The Bad Heart River has smaller streams that flow into it. These are called tributaries.
