Bad Staffelstein is a town in Bavaria, a state in Germany. It is located in the Upper Franconia region and has about 10,000 people living there.

This town is famous for a few cool places. These include the beautiful Basilica of the Vierzehnheiligen, which was designed by a famous architect named Balthasar Neumann. There's also Banz Abbey, which used to be a monastery and is now called Banz Castle. Another well-known spot is the Staffelberg, a mountain that is 540 meters (about 1,770 feet) high.

Since 2001, Bad Staffelstein has also been known for its warm, salty spa water. This is why the town got the special title Bad, which means "spa" in German. This spa makes the town a popular place for tourists to visit and relax.

Special Town Parts: Kaider and Schwabthal

Kaider: Stone and History

Kaider is a part of Bad Staffelstein known for its stone industry. It also has a special place called St. Mary's Chapel.

Long ago, Kaider was called Dabermannsdorf. The name changed to Kaider by 1542.

Kaider was first mentioned in history on December 12, 1299. On that day, a knight named Albert von Giech sold some of his land in the area to a monastery.

Important Buildings and Landmarks

On July 5, 1684, a big fire destroyed almost the entire center of Bad Staffelstein. Because of this, most of the houses you see in the town today were built after that fire.

  • The town hall: This building was constructed between 1684 and 1687. It's a three-story building made of wood and plaster, typical of the Franconian region. It stands out in the town's main market square.
  • The Bamberg Tower: People often call this the Stadtturm (Town Tower). It's the only tower left from the old town walls that used to protect the town. Today, it's sometimes used to show art.
  • Banz Abbey and castle: A historic monastery that is now a castle.
  • Basilica of the Vierzehnheiligen: A very famous and beautiful church.
