What is Baker's Haulover Inlet?

This important channel was dug in 1925. It cuts through a narrow strip of sand between the cities of Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles. The inlet helps boats travel easily between the bay and the ocean. It also helps ocean water flow into and out of Biscayne Bay.

History of the Inlet's Name

The name "Baker's Haulover" has been around for a long time. It first appeared on maps way back in 1823. This shows that the area has been known for many years, even before the channel was built.

Fun at Haulover Park

Baker's Haulover Inlet is part of the 99-acre Haulover Park. This park is a great place for outdoor fun! You can find many recreation areas here. There's also a marina where boats can dock. A large bridge carries State Road A1A right over the inlet. This bridge connects the land on both sides.

A Special Fishing Dock Marker

There's a special historical marker at the original Lighthouse Dock site. This marker was placed on February 21, 2004. It honors the first charter-boat captains who worked at this dock from 1926 to 1951. A charter boat is one you can rent with a captain for fishing trips. This marker is unique because it's the only one in the entire State of Florida dedicated to a fishing dock!
