Baldomer Galofre i Giménez (born May 25, 1845 – died July 26, 1902) was a Spanish painter. He was known for his beautiful landscapes and sea paintings.

About Baldomer Galofre

Baldomer Galofre was born in Reus, a city in Spain. When he was young, he started learning art from Domènec Soberano, who was a painter and also sold wine.

Early Art Studies

Later, Baldomer's family moved to Barcelona. There, he studied art at the Escola de la Llotja. He learned from a famous teacher named Ramon Martí Alsina. After that, he went to Madrid to continue his art education.

First Art Shows

Baldomer had his first art show in Barcelona in 1866. He showed a painting called "Els traginers" (The Porters) there. He also showed his artwork in Barcelona in 1870 and 1872. In 1868, he had an exhibition in Zaragoza. For this show, he painted beautiful landscapes of the Montjuïc and Vallvidrera hills. He also painted some scenes of the sea. His watercolor paintings won a silver medal at an art show in Salamanca.

Time in Rome

From 1870 to 1882, Baldomer lived in Rome, Italy. He received money from the Spanish government, which was called the First Republic, to study art. He attended the "Academia Española de Bellas Artes de Roma." During this time, he was influenced by another great painter, Marià Fortuny. However, Baldomer still kept his own special painting style, especially in how he used colors.

Later Success and Legacy

In 1884, Baldomer had a very popular art show in Barcelona. A writer named Narcís Oller praised his paintings, saying they looked very natural. In 1890, one of his paintings was bought by Queen María Cristina at an exhibition in Madrid.

From 1886, he regularly showed his art at the Sala Parés, a famous art gallery. His last painting, "El cavall més valent" (The Bravest Horse), was not finished when he died. Even so, it was sold for a lot of money. Baldomer Galofre passed away in Barcelona when he was 57 years old.

Even though he was famous during his life, his popularity faded quickly after he died. A big art show of his work in 1903 did not have many visitors.
