History of Balfour

The community got its name from Captain William Balfour Troy. He was the first owner of the land where Balfour is located today.
Where is Balfour?
Balfour is in a great spot in North Carolina. To the south, it borders Hendersonville, North Carolina, which is the main town of Henderson County. To the north, you'll find Mountain Home, North Carolina.
The main road through Balfour is U.S. Route 25 Business. This road goes south into Hendersonville. If you go north about 4 miles (6.4 km), you can reach Interstate 26 and US 25. The city of Asheville is about 21 miles (34 km) north of Balfour.
Balfour covers an area of about 1.62 square miles (4.2 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. A small stream called Mud Creek flows along the eastern side of Balfour. Mud Creek eventually flows into the French Broad River.
